Currently, we are in search of a Full-Time Columbus Dispatcher, Monday – Friday, 3pm – 11pm. All positions will require that you live in the Columbus area and that you submit to a background check and drug screening. Language interpreting is known to date back to Ancient Egypt during the 3^rd millennium B.C. The first records of interpreting were in the form of Egyptian low-relief sculptures in a prince’s tomb that made reference to an interpreter supervisor.

A strong importance of good business changed the way communication was carried out, and gestures were no longer enough, and so this is when the interpreter made his first appearance.

Interpreters continued to be employed throughout the middle Ages. Monks of many different nationalities interpret in monasteries; preachers of foreign lands interpret in councils, as well as some individuals interpreting on business expeditions, military incursions and diplomatic meetings.

During the Age of Discovery, the use of new and different languages had greatly changed the way we see interpretation today. Christopher Columbus in his first voyage noted that his Arabic and Hebrew-speaking interpreters we not very helpful in communicating with the Indians. After this voyage he decided to capture some Native Americans and teach them Spanish so they could help him as interpreters on his next expedition.

It may be hard to relate a service such as Interpretation to an active sport like acrobatics but in reality, balance, agility, and coordination directly transfer over from sport to service. 1. Organize Each Day

Much of what we find stressful in the day are hours where we are overwhelmed with daily tasks. Create a plan early in the morning when you wake up and you will be more prepared for the day ahead of you. You will not make yourself less busy, yet instead; you will be mentally preparing yourself for the tasks of the day. This will allow you to manage the day more efficiently.

2. Create Time Blocks

Start each day arranging time blocks for your daily tasks. If you know that checking your email will take 3-hours each day, split it up with an hour in the morning, an hour after lunch and another at the end of the day. Try to avoid checking your email every 15-20 minutes. In most cases, emails can wait for a response later in the day. This alone will free up time needed for other tasks. Learning another language can be a difficult task, especially for adults. The easiest way to learn a language is while the brain is still in the developmental stage or while you are young and still growing. Even if it is harder to learn a language when you are older, there is still great benefit in developing a new skill set.

According to NBC4, “Speaking two or more languages helps protect your brain as you age, even if you learn new languages as an adult, new research suggests.”

A study conducted in the 1930’s included 835 people born in Scotland 1936 whose original language is English. They were then given mental skills test at the age of 11 and again in their early 70s. 262 participants able to speak two or more languages, 195 learned a second language before the age of 18, and the rest after that age.

As expected, participants with the ability to speak and/or write in more than one language had much higher results when they were older from the tests they took when they were younger. Areas that included general intelligence and reading had shown the largest results in comparison to other areas.

According to study author Dr. Thomas Bak, from the Centre for Cognitive Aging and Cognitive Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, this study is the first to take into account for childhood intelligence while examining whether learning a second language affects mental skills later in life.

“These findings are of considerable practical relevance. Millions of people around the world acquire their second language later in life. Our study shows that bilingualism, even when acquired in adulthood, may benefit the aging brain,” Bak concluded in a journal news release.

Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are being shared with other parts of the world and in many languages. In a court of law a new aspect arises in the interpretation and translation world. Recently as social media becomes more prominent in our daily lives, text and social media messages become present, especially court rooms. A new challenge emerges in the courtroom with media messages including abbreviated text, rapid-fire exchanges, and personal messages.

Media presented as evidence in a court of law from cell phones, Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media put great difficulty on the interpreter. According to Jennifer De La Cruz of NAJIT (National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators), in less formal hearings where parties appear without representation, the offending Facebook post or text message is often brought up last minute on somebody’s cellphone.
